(12節) 求你試試僕人們十天，給我們素菜吃，白水喝， Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
(16節) 於是委辦撤去派他們用的膳，飲的酒，給他們素菜吃。Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
着重健康的人都知道食素菜比吃肉更加健康 . 但原來他們所吃的不單止是吃素菜那麼簡單 , 乃是豆類植物(pulse) . 他們既為被俘虜中的階下之人 , 定必沒有任何菜刀或能生火的煮食工具 , 而一般人都知道除了一些腰果之類 , 豆類是很難生食的,究竟他們是點食法的呢?
答案是令人驚奇的 : 其方程式如下
pulse 豆 + water 水 + time 時間 = 芽菜 (發咗芽的豆類植物)
本人相信他們必定是將水和豆一同放在盛器裡. 經過一兩日的發芽時間 , 便成為芽菜 . 看來他們一定是吃芽菜大的了 .
(15節) 過了十天，見他們的面貌比用王膳的一切少年人更加俊美肥胖。And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.
他們生食芽菜 , 竟然不是皮黃骨瘦 , 乃是更加的俊美及肥胖 . 何解 ? 還有的是 , 他們在智慧聰明及各方面的學識上 , 更不只是在同級的考試成績取得1,2,3名那麼簡單 , 乃是
(20節) 王考問他們一切事，就見他們的智慧聰明比通國的術士和用法術的勝過十倍。 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
而且他們並非少年人 , 乃是區區幾名黃毛小子(小孩子)而已 , 可能只有小學生的年紀 , 便有如斯造藝 , 通達各樣知識及科學 , 其智慧聰明全國無人能及 , 實在非常之難得 . 以今天的口吻來說 , 簡直就係IQ爆晒燈的神童.
(4節) 就是年少沒有殘疾、相貌俊美、通達各樣學問、知識聰明俱備、足能侍立在王宮裡的，要教他們迦勒底的文字言語。Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
(17節) 這四個少年人、神在各樣文字學問上、〔學問原文作智慧〕賜給他們聰明知識．但以理又明白各樣的異象和夢兆。As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
除了上帝真的確實賜予他們智慧聰明勇氣外 , 相信也同他們日常起居飲食習慣有莫大的關連 . 若非如此 , 但以理又豈能成為三朝元老(歷任三個朝代的朝中重臣) , 他們日理萬機之餘 , 還可以長壽健康呢 !
